Higdon Family Association, Inc.

Helping members find cousins and learn about our history.

Rebuilt Catholic Church in St. Mary's City Maryland.

Welcome

Hi! If in any of your family tree, or ancestry projects, you’ve come across a Higdon and wanted to get more information about them, you have come to the right place.

Whether you’re a school student working on your first ‘ancestor report,’ or a part-time family history researcher who is trying to find elusive information about someone you already know is in your family, or a person who is daily searching for more information on your family tree (in other words, a genealogist with some experience), you indeed have come to the right place.

Those of us Higdons, and those who are related to us Higdons, who make up the Higdon Family Association have amassed a stunning wealth of information about people and places that make up the Higdon family (and quite a few other families). We welcome you to look through our website for information to help you with your search. If you have ‘hit a wall’ in your searching, our newsletter editor would love to publish your question(s) in our every-other-month newsletter to see if any of our members can help you out, and our members would love to meet you and ‘talk shop’ with you our next annual meeting.

As you meet with, and get to know, us Higdons, and those who are related to us Higdons, and as you progress in your Higdon-related searches, we hope that you will join with us and become part of the Higdon Family Association.

Welcome to our new website.  It will be a work in progress as I learn more about creating it.  Let me know when you find those pesky spelling errors.  Share any news here as well as in the newsletter.  I have put this out on the internet before I am done setting it up, but I need to learn how it looks and feels on different screens that you might be reading this on.  So if the page is not all on your screen, please let me know.

HFA President Richard T Higdon will be hosting our next meeting in Independence, MO.  We arrive on Sept 25, 2024 and head for home on the 28th.  The plan is to stay in the Ophelia Inn and Restaurant there.  Planned tours at the Community of Christ Temple, Harry Truman statue and Harry Truman Library Museum and Home.  Lunch at Arthur Bryant's BBQ in Kansas City.  See the May Newsletter for details.

About the Higdon Family Association

Relevant, Important Updates

Our Newsletter

Our newsletter is published 6 times a year.  It contains articles about family members, upcoming events, includes results of our last business meetings.  Members can submit questions about family genealogy, obituaries of passed family members, notices about upcoming family events.  It is included with your membership.

Scholarship program

We offer up to 5 scholarships and/or 1 grant per year to up to 5 students.  The student must be sponsored by a current dues paying member.  The application forms are available now and must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee Chairman by March 31st.  Details are in the January HFA newsletter.

Donations and membership

We do accept donations, but they are not tax deductible.  We are a 501-7C not for profit organization and IRS does not allow donators to reduce their taxes with donations to us.  Donations can be for the Scholarship program or general.

Membership is $30.00 per year for a household.  So, a couple only needs one membership, and both can participate in the organization.  Be on the board of directors, vote at the meetings and other tasks to help the HFA.  Members can pay for more than one year's worth of membership when renewing.  See the options on the Books and memberships page below.

Please contact our treasurer for details about designating a gift in your Will.

Facebook

We have a Facebook page.  There around 550 members on the page.  Occasionally we have some good discussions about different branches of Higdon's.
